Miley Cyrus is speaking out about the 6-year-old Texas girl who won Hannah Montana concert tickets last month after concocting a story about her father's dying in Iraq.
In an interview set to air Monday on Good Morning America, Cyrus, 15, terms the situation "upsetting." Once the lie was exposed, sponsors of the contest in which the girl won the tickets and other prizes took everything away from her.
"I was really kind of upset. I mean, that's just not a cool scenario," says Cyrus. "But it just shows what people will do for a ticket."
Cyrus also says she is aware of just how desperate fans are for tickets to her concerts, even if it means burning holes in their parents' wallets.
"People are paying thousands and thousands of dollars to come see one show. So we have to give 120 percent each time," she says.
A Dash of Cinnamon
GMA also includes a peek inside Cyrus's tour bus, which is adorned with homemade collages and an unlikely decorator touch: cinnamon candles."I'm allergic to cinnamon, so cinnamon candles are my favorite," says Cyrus. "Can't eat it – so [I] smell it."
Headlining one of the hottest concert tours in the U.S., Cyrus – who is gearing up for the Feb. 1 release of the 3-D Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert film, which recently premiered in Hollywood – says she takes the advice of her mother, Tish, when it comes to dealing with her star status.
"My mom always says: for every, you know, 10,000 people that love you, there's going to be another handful of 10,000 people that don't. And it's like, there's nothing that you can change," says Cyrus. "So, that's all right."
