Singer Scott Weiland of the rock band Velvet Revolver pleaded not guilty Wednesday in a Los Angeles court to driving under the influence of drugs with a prior conviction.

Weiland's attorney entered the plea on the singer's behalf. His next court date is April 4.

The singer, 40, was arrested for DUI in L.A. on Nov. 21, and was freed on $40,000 bail the following day.

Weiland has had several brushes with the law in recent years.

In July 2004, he was ordered to complete a six-month drug program and serve three years probation after pleading no contest to DUI.

If convicted of this latest charge, Weiland faces up to one year in jail, a $1,000 fine, and his car could be impounded for 30 days.
